Nautical stripes are a big item for spring, and I couldn't be happier. They are such a classic look, and while I prefer the navy and white colorway, some of the brighter pairings are fun, too!

I haven't shopped at Forever in a few years, but stopped in two different shops while in California and was thrilled with the nautical-inspired pieces. This dress is cute and comfortable, and looks great belted!

This top would look great with leggings, jeans, or tucked into a high-waisted skirt. Love the green-and-navy combo!

I attended Gospel brunch at the local drag club last Sunday with some friends ... it was hysterical!

Since we don't have Trader Joe's in Florida, I shipped back a box of TJ's snacks from California. These roasted gorgonzola crackers were tied with the chocolate-covered edamame for my favorite.

I had such an amazing time in California - I'm happy to have visited several different areas (we stayed in Newport Beach, but we also visited Laguna Beach, Huntington Beach, Costa Mesa, Venice, Hollywood, and Beverly Hills). As my move to New England draws closer and closer, I want to drink in every last bit of life in Florida! I recently woke up early and went deep-sea fishing with my best friend's family. Although I ended up getting seasick and the water was so choppy that we didn't catch anything, I did get a little use out of my new camera while out on the boat.

We headed out on the water just as the sun was rising.

There are so many pretty houses along the Intracoastal.

We saw boats small and large on our way out - everything from sailboats to cruise ships.

We stopped for fuel at a Fort Lauderdale landmark.

I got to break in my new Kiel James Patrick bracelet.

The beau and I started the day with brunch at one of our favorite spots.

We then headed to Worth Avenue where I picked up a few ornaments at Roberta Roller Rabbit.

After we were done shopping, we started the evening with a Dark & Stormy at Nick & Johnnie's.

EAW slipped a box from Kiel James Patrick under the tree.

My sister-in-law and I put on our festive outfits - I wore a plaid skirt and she wore candy cane-striped suspenders.

My father is from Germany, and we have a traditional German Christmas dinner at a local restaurant each year. This year I opted for the pecan-crusted venison in a cranberry-wine sauce ... It was delish!

I was glad to have EAW's mom join us for dinner this year, and one of my best friends, her fiancé, and his family ended up sitting at the table next to us!

Later that night we attended a Christmas party and I caught up with some of my favorite ladies.

With Christmas just a few days away, I am (literally) wrapping up my shopping list and picking up a few last minute items. The beau and I headed out on a shopping expedition this evening to pick out my Christmas present from him (a beach cruiser is at the top of my list). Although we didn't find the bicycle of my dreams, it was fun to have a shopping buddy, as I've done all of my shopping solo this year. Now that the hard part is over, it's time to relax and enjoy the last few days of the holiday season!

P.S. Comfortable shoes are a must while Christmas shopping, and my new Tory Burch driving loafers fit the bill. I scored them for less than half price during one of Tory's flash sales on Facebook. Now, if only I had picked up the penny loafers, too ...

What I Wore: Boat Parade Party

In Florida, boat parades are kind of a big deal. Every town along the coast has their own, and there are often prizes for the most elaborately decorated boats. When I was little, we used to go to family friends' homes on the water and watch the Fort Lauderdale show. Last year was the first year I was on an actual boat for a parade (Delray/Boynton Beach) and it was one of the best parties ever. This year, there wasn't a boat available for us to take, but we still had a fantastic time over at A and T's. We were able to watch the parade from their balcony, A made an amazing dinner, and we decorated the tree. All in all, a very fun way to kick off the Christmas season!

What I Wore: Thanksgiving

I kept my fingers crossed for cooler weather for the holiday, and I got my wish as it is actually below 80 today (those of you up North are probably laughing at me, but I have experienced many 90 degree Thanksgivings before)! I've had this dress in my closet for about two months, and this is the first time I've worn it - it is super cozy and I can't wait to wear it with tights once true Florida winter begins. This is the first Thanksgiving that my family and the beau's family are spending together, and we are having dinner on the back porch of EAW's mom's house. I hope everyone has a very happy Thanksgiving and spends the day with loved ones!

We had a beyond fabulous time celebrating ACC's birthday at her barn this past weekend! Ashley has great style and paid attention to all of the little details from the tablescapes (the plates were reminiscent of an Hermès scarf) to the food (EAW declared it as some of the best barbecue he's ever had). Ashley's family has given their farm such a homey feel with all of the personal details, including a pink-and-green hen house and lots of monograms!

Friday Blog Hop: My Favorite Cookbook

My dear friend Muffy Martini is hosting a "my favorite cookbook" blog hop today. My all-time favorite cookbook is James Villas' The Glory of Southern Cooking. He has all the classics in there - biscuits, shrimp & grits, and perfect fried chicken - but he also features a lot of regional dishes one may not have experienced before. You can buy it here. It would be hard to pick a favorite recipe from the book, so I thought I would share the quintessential Southern appetizer ... perfect to whip up for a tailgate or when a neighbor stops by to chat!

Pimento Cheese Spread

1/4 pound extra-sharp white Vermont cheddar cheese

1/2 pound extra-sharp New York State cheddar cheese

One 7-ounce jar pimentos, drained

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Salt to taste

Cayenne pepper to taste

2/3 cup mayonnaise

Finely grate the two cheeses into a mixing bowl. On a plate, mash the pimentos will with a fork till they're very pulpy. Add them to the cheeses along with the pepper, salt, and cayenne, and mix till well blended. Using a fork, fold in the mayonnaise and mash till the spread is smooth, adding a little more mayonnaise if it appears too dry.

Scrape the spread into a jar or crock, cover well, and refrigerate for at least two hours before serving with crackers or using pimento cheese finger sandwiches. Keep up to 1 week tightly covered in the refrigerator.

In-flight essentials

Since I'm going to be traveling a LOT during the next few months, cultivating the perfect carry-on has been on my mind.

1. Eye mask - I usually take something to sleep on most flights, so an eye mask is a must. This cashmere one from Saks is on my Christmas list!

2. Longchamp Le Pliage - I have the large black one, and it is the perfect carry-on tote. These bags are indestructible.

3. iPod Nano - Holds more music than my iPhone.

4. Bobbi Brown Hydrating Face Cream - I don't usually wear makeup on a plane unless I have somewhere to be right after getting off. This cream is super moisturizing.

5. Ballet flats - Ballet flats are great to slip on and off when going through security. I usually wear Tory Burch Revas, but I just bought this Kate Spade pair and they are amazingly comfortable!

6. Sparkling water - I usually prefer to drink sparkling water on the plane because the bubbles help calm my stomach (yes, I am anxious on planes).

7. Nook - Getting lost in a good book always helps move time along.

8. Missoni for Target neck pillow - I'm never going on a plane without this again!

9. Energy bar - I prefer to fly JetBlue (and they have a great snack selection), but I always bring a bar in case I need a pick me up!

10. Cashmere socks - My feet are ALWAYS cold.

Monogram Monday: Bauble Bar Monogram Necklace

A gold monogram necklace has been on my wish list for the past year or so, but the versions I'd seen for sale were around $400-$500 and a little out of my budget. Enter Bauble Bar, my new favorite jewelry site. They have some seriously gorgeous pieces, plus designer collabs (hello, Erickson Beamon!). I purchased the large gold-plated sterling silver monogram pendant, and received my custom piece in the mail this weekend. It is definitely worth the $115!

I was also thrilled to receive a hand-written note with my package. It's the little things that make for a loyal customer ... and I will definitely be purchasing from Bauble Bar again soon!

From time to time, Lands' End will post items to this page, and the percentage they take off the item increases each day until it's gone. A Note from BAH

I've been wanting more than ever lately to become more involved with blogging. I'm more than two years out of college at this point in my life and in need of a creative outlet more than ever before. In turn, I think this blog is going to undergo some major changes.

I'm dropping the "preppy" from the title. Yes, I still consider my style preppy, but I don't want to be filed into a category. I have other facets of my personality, after all. Panache, by definition, means "a grand or flamboyant manner; verve; style; flair." This is a word I originally learned from my father; "panache" is what you make of it. When I started this blog, I was a college senior in Central Florida who wore Lilly and Bonnanos almost exclusively, but my style has matured. I want this blog to become more about my personal style as it evolves, with a little music, food or whatever else strikes my fancy thrown into the mix. My boyfriend has taken an interest in photography as of late, so I'm hoping to use that to my advantage.

Also, I am in discussions with my job to relocate to New England this spring. I am a Southern girl through and through, but I've spent all 24 years of my life in Florida and am ready for a change of scenery. I'm hoping this blog will help me deal with the transition, and maybe I'll even meet some new friends along the way!

I am looking for a blog designer to create a new header for me (if anyone has any suggestions, please email me). In the meantime, I'd love a little feedback from y'all on what you would love to see from me.

NYC Recap, Part 2

On our third day in NYC, we went to Chinatown to visit my favorite dim sum restaurant, Dim Sum Go Go. We ate there a few years ago before it was reviewed in the New York Times. The pork buns are out of this world!

After lunch, we headed downtown for a little shopping at Century 21. There are definitely deals to be had there, but the place was packed at lunch time. I scored a cute striped French Connection dress and a navy and grey satchel.

After waiting in line (and almost getting in a fight with a foreigner), we walked across the street to Ground Zero. The last time I was at the site was three years ago (and the time before that was in 2001 when the towers were still standing), and it's amazing how much it has changed. Unfortunately, the reflecting pools were not open, but we stopped and said a prayer and remembered that terrible day.

We took the subway (the one and only time during the trip - I hate being underground) over to Bleecker Street for some shopping. If I lived in New York, that would definitely be the neighborhood for me! I picked up this clutch at the new Rugby women's store and bought the boyfriend a present at Marc Jacobs. I had to stop in Magnolia Bakery for a cupcake - their vanilla is TDF!

We rested a bit at the hotel before having our big dinner of the trip at Le Bernardin. It has been one of my culinary dreams to eat there (and at Thomas Keller's French Laundry and Per Se). We did the tasting menu and it was one of the best meals of my life. The charred octopus was hands down my favorite course. Halfway through the meal I went to the bathroom and returned to see Mario Batali seated next to us! He was wearing a suit with his signature orange Crocs and tapping away excitedly on his iPhone. Now, I had definitely been fantasizing about running into Anthony Bourdain at Le Bernardin, but Mario Batali was still a great celebrity sighting!

The next day it was raining and the city was in a complete gridlock because of the United Nations Summit. In fact, we were staying close to the UN and President Obama was making his way down the street as we were trying to leave that morning. We walked over to MoMA, unaware that it was closed on Tuesdays. Instead, we headed to Carmine's for lunch, a family-style Italian restaurant near Times Square we have been going to for years. After some perfect chicken parmigiana, we made our way to the airport, afraid that the traffic would delay us.

I had an unbelievable time in New York, and an unforgettable time with my mama. Hopefully we won't wait as long for our next girls' trip!

NYC Recap, Part 1

I had the perfect time in NYC with my mama last week. The last trip we took just the two of us was to Prince Edward Island when I was eight, so it was definitely time for another one!

When we arrived in NYC Saturday morning, we hopped in a cab and headed to Eataly. I had been dying to eat there since it opened, and it was well worth the wait. We had lunch at the pizza/pasta cafe and started with the Salumi Misti, an assortment of artisanal meats. We split the Penne Rigate alla Norma and the day's pasta special, prosciutto-filled ravioli in a sage and brown butter sauce. It was perfection!

After lunch we headed to Soho and did some shopping at Top Shop and Kate Spade. We fell in love with Kate Spade's new lipstick line and the "Fuchsia Fete" may be the most flattering shade of lipstick I've ever found. I also picked up some more tights and the most darling gold bow ring. After shopping, it was time to get ready for dinner and the theater. We had a pre-theater dinner at Daniel Boulud's DB Bistro Moderne. Daniel's Cafe Boulud in Palm Beach is one of my favorite restaurants on the island, so I was thrilled to visit. We split the evening's fish special and the incredible DB burger, which is stuffed with foie gras, black truffles and short ribs.

After a delicious dinner we headed to the theater to see How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying starring Daniel Radcliffe. The show was by far the best Broadway production I've ever seen and I encourage everyone to see it before Daniel Radcliffe gives up his role at the end of the year (rumor is it's going to one of the Jonas brothers)!

The next morning, after a few New York bagels, we headed to Madison Avenue for some shopping. Our first stop was the Lilly Pulitzer shop, which I hadn't been to before. The store is absolutely adorable and I was thrilled to run into an old friend while I was there! Next, we couldn't resist waiting in line at Maison Laduree for some macarons.

After snacking on macarons, we visited Tory Burch and then headed over to Fifth to check out Henri Bendel and Tiffany. We shopped a little more and then headed over to the Plaza Hotel just in time for our reservation for afternoon tea at the famed Palm Court. The tea was absolutely wonderful ... we went for the classic, complete with glasses of Veuve Clicquot. The service was a little disappointing - not stuck-up, just non-existant once we were served our tea service. Nevertheless, it was a perfect New York afternoon.

We wandered back toward the theater district, as we had tickets to see the off-Broadway production Avenue Q that night. The show was absolutely hilarious - perfect for any post-college twenty-something like me who is still trying to figure out life! We rounded out the evening with a late dinner at a nearby Thai restaurant before headed back to our hotel for some much-needed rest!

I apologize for the length of this post, but there were so many things I wanted to highlight! The rest of my trip will be recalled in a separate post.

I have the 24-pack model and it actually holds way more than 24 cans of beer. I've used mine twice now - once for the UCF game and once at the Brad Paisley concert over the weekend - and I love it!

Missoni Meltdown

When Target released their Calypso collection a few months ago, I woke up at 6 AM the day of the release and was able to place an order for everything I wanted (a few items I ordered sold out by the day's end). I planned to do the same thing for this morning's Missoni release, but by the time I woke up the Target website had already crashed. I got to my local Target by 8:15 AM and it was already totally wiped out.

I managed to grab one of the sleeveless sweater dresses as they were putting away things people had left in the fitting room - it's a size larger than I wear but I'm hoping to either belt or shrink it. I also picked up the last sweater box (perfect for my cableknits!) and a pair of crew socks. After work I headed to the next closest Target and found the last Missoni item in the store - the black suede pumps in my size! They are stylish, comfortable, and will be perfect for my NYC trip this weekend!
I'm curious - how was everyone else's experience with shopping the Missoni for Target collection?

Monogram Monday

One of my favorite items of clothing is the Vineyard Vines Shep Shirt. They are super comfortable, and a little more stylish than a regular sweatshirt. The first one I ever bought was the navy men's version (it comes in extra small!) with the coordinates of the Ocean Reef Club. Since then, VV came out with a women's version, and I have bought three more (green with pink shoulders, white with pink shoulders, and this light pink with blue shoulders). Since I see everything as a blank canvas for monogramming, I knew the Shep Shirt would be a perfect candidate. I love the monogram, and I think I'm going to take my other ones and get those done as well!

An Hermès Twilly is a great way to add a little pizazz to any outfit, and also a way to get the Hermès look without breaking the bank. I have one in the signature Hermès orange and have challenged myself to wear it as many different ways as possible. I've worn it as a head scarf, and yesterday I tied it around my neck with a striped shirt for a very Parisian look. Next up, I'm planning on trying it as a bracelet. How do you wear your Twilly?

A very happy September to y'all! I am so thrilled that college football season is finally here! I drove up to UCF this weekend with the beau to catch our first home game against Charleston Southern. It was also my first time tailgating with my brother (he just turned 21), and so I bought him a black-and-gold tailgate tent as his birthday gift. We had a great time and I also caught up with some fellow alums. UCF won 62-0 last night, so there wasn't much to watch, but we are anticipating a big game next week against Boston College!

Nook-tastic!

My boyfriend gave me a Nook for Christmas this year, and for the first few months I had it, I constantly downloaded books. Once I realized I was paying $12.99 for most books, including older releases I could buy on Amazon for $5, I left my Nook to collect dust for several months.
My mom bought a Nook this past weekend after borrowing mine for her recent trip to the Hamptons. She called me raving about all the features on it, and mentioned that you can now borrow e-books through most local libraries.
After installing Adobe Digital Editions on my computer (which took almost five hours because I couldn't find directions for Mac users - seriously almost threw my Macbook out the window), I have fallen in love with my Nook all over again! The library gives you 21 days to read each book and you can have up to 10 titles out at a time. Plus, if you don't like a book you can return it early (as I did with The Carrie Diaries this weekend).
I cannot wait to put a dent in my reading list during all the traveling I'm doing this fall. For those of you who are on the fence about getting an e-reader, this option definitely justified it for me!

I did a little lunching/shopping with ACC and AJK yesterday on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach. It was my first time shopping down there and I was wowed by the preppy shops - they even rival the ones in Palm Beach! Of course we stopped by C. Orrico to check out the latest Lilly, then headed to The Mixed Bag where we all bought the exact same dress (It's by Tracy Negoshian - you can find it here). Our last stop was Snappy Turtle, where we picked out monogram decals for our cars - we all got new ones this year!

Nautical Night

If there's one thing that can be said about my group of friends, it's that we love a good theme! When my dear friend AK and her hubby TK asked EAW and I to join them for lobster rolls this past Friday, we dubbed the evening "Nautical Night." We had dinner at Linda Bean's Perfect Maine in Delray Beach. Now, I've had lobster rolls all over New England, but this was by far one of the best I ever had. Linda Bean is an heiress to the LL Bean fortune, but carved out her own path in the lobster business. She has restaurants all over Maine, and I'm glad she has brought her New England fare to South Florida!

My mama called this morning with a great surprise - she is taking me to New York for a girls' weekend in September! Now, Mama is a native New Yorker and I've been to the city many times (but it's been about three years since the last time), so we're not looking to do the whole touristy thing. I'm most excited to visit Eataly for the first time and MoMA again, and have tea at the Plaza Hotel. Any recommendations for off-the-beaten trail activities, restaurants or shopping?

I read Commencement by J. Courtney Sullivan shortly after I graduated from college, and it is a novel that definitely struck a chord with me. When I moved into my dorm freshman year, I lived with my best friend from college and two girls from Jacksonville whom I had never met before. The four of us were as different as could be, but the bond we formed that year was something strong. We went on to live together our sophomore year as well, and I lived with one of the girls junior year and another one senior year as well. You hear horror stories all the time about random roommate pairings, and I know I am lucky. And still am, as I still count those girls among my closest friends.

Needless to say, the four of us are very different from the four girls in the book, but the relationships couldn't be more similar. After a recent weekend spent with one of my former dormmates, we discussed a reunion weekend of sorts in the near future - our paths rarely cross now that two of us have full-time jobs and live-in boyfriends, one is finishing up her master's degree in Ohio, and the fourth is enrolled in pharmacy school. I had the idea to send each of the girls a copy of Commencement as a reminder of the weekend we came together in that dorm, six years ago.

While getting ready to order the books from Amazon, I was delighted to see that Sullivan has a new book out, Maine. The title alone intrigued me, as I have visited Maine on several occasions, and have been desiring a summer trip to New England to escape the brutal Florida humidity. This book provided the perfect escape.

This book centers around four female family members - their relationships with each other, the men in their life and God (anyone who went to Catholic school could relate, as I did). It is the tale of a far-from-perfect family, which I'm sure anyone could relate to. I also like how the book's narrator changes with each chapter, so the story develops from different perspectives.

If you're looking for a book to toss in your Boat and Tote for the beach, this is a great one!

Every summer, I seem to pick a few favorite items and purchase them in multiples. My big find this year is the Roberta Roller Rabbit tunic. They opened a pop-up shop on Worth Avenue in the spring, and I was lucky enough to scoop up a few while the store was there. Throw in an elephant-shaped Kate Spade wicker purse (which I'm lusting after), Tory sandals and Ray-Ban Clubmasters and you're set for the season!

Summer Libations: Pimm's Cup

A Pimm's Cup is one of my absolute favorite summer drinks. It's light and refreshing and the perfect poolside drink. The recipe seems to vary depending on whom you talk to (many make it with lemonade, but I think it's too similar to another one of my favorite drinks, Firefly Vodka & lemonade). I use ice, 2 ounces of Pimm's Cup No. 1, 6 ounces of ginger ale, 2 ounces of club soda. Stir and enjoy!

I am a longtime fan of Calypso St. Barth. Their shop on Worth Avenue is one of my favorite shops in Palm Beach! I was thrilled when I found out they were doing a collection for Target, including apparel and items for the home. Some of the items I wanted were being sold online only, so I got up this morning at 6 AM to place my order. Am I glad I did, because many of the items I ordered are already sold out! I also stopped by Target this afternoon and picked up a few things in the store. Here's what I got:

Day at the Zoo

We spent Sunday afternoon with E's brother, his girlfriend and our precious 3-year-old nephew and it was a swell time! The Palm Beach Zoo at Dreher Park is low-key, full of Florida wildlife and a great place to take a walk! My favorite animal of the day was the definitely the koalas, who are the zoo's newest additions - they were sleeping curled up in little balls in a tree.

Excuse my lack of recent posts, I have been soaking up the sun! As "beach season" comes to an end, and the unbearably hot Florida summer approaches, I have been finding reasons to go outside. From sunning on the beach, Coronas with friends at Square Grouper, mini golfing and a whole slew of outdoor concerts, I have found plenty of things to keep me busy. Thanks to all my dear readers and friends for all of the lovely birthday wishes! I had a fantastic weekend and my friends and family definitely went above and beyond this year!

I've seen these maps popping up on other blogs ... the colored states are ones I've visited. My number one resolution for my 24th year is to travel more. Top states I'd love to visit? California (I have a few friends who live there), Oklahoma (possibly going there to see Hanson in May) and Louisiana (just all around obsessed with New Orleans)!

I never thought I'd like a cross-body bag when the trend first emerged about a year ago. But as summer approaches, the idea became a lot more enticing. Plus, I attended the Honda Classic a few weeks back and toting around my Longchamp all day was utterly exhausting. After manifestos from a few cross-body bag loving friends, I began to search for my perfect one. Behold the Kate Spade Essex Scout.

I purchased the bag in brown and received it on Monday. It is pure genius. The leather is supple, it holds a lot without being a bottomless pit like my many tote bags, and it is a timeless design. It will be perfect for all of the summer concerts I'm going to. My only wish is that I would have ordered it sooner.

It is my mother's all-time favorite book, and when I was finally old enough to read it, she rewarded me with a trip to Prince Edward Island in Canada (where the book is set). I was browsing Anthropologie the other day when I came across this delightful copy of the book. I realized I didn't even have my own copy of my namesake novel, and eagerly scooped it up. A very merry belated Christmas, readers! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. I so enjoyed spending time with family and friends this weekend, and with the low temps in Florida, it actually felt like Christmas! The trimmings are on the tree, (most) presents are wrapped and we are ready for Christmas! I've been trying to make the most of my apartment, keeping it colorful (because I can't paint the walls) and whimsical.

Poinsettias are a holiday staple for me.

Loved this red and green plaid "Merry Christmas" banner from Target ... I bought matching plates and napkins in the same print!

The hurricane glass on the bar is filled with Mardi Gras beads the rest of the year, but for Christmas/New Year's I filled it with gold glitter ornaments. I also added a set of these festive glasses.

Our tree this year is a mashup of different things. My collection of Lilly ornaments, random ornaments I've collected over the years, and Mardi Gras beads used as garland. The tree skirt is also Lilly in X Marks the Spot.

Another new addition this year ... Preppy Pink Blondi e made me this adorable Lilly ornament!

Today I met Lilly Pulitzer ... and it all began with a bathrobe.

Back in college, the mother of my dear roommate, RLD gifted me a vintage Lilly bathrobe from the '70s. A few months ago, I heard a museum in Boynton Beach would be doing an exhibit on Lilly. I got in touch with the museum's director and offered to loan them my robe for the exhibit.

Well, I was pleased to find out that the museum had planned a book signing with True Prep author Lisa Birnbach. I loved the book and hadn't yet seen the exhibit, so I planned to make a day of it and do a little write up for the blog.

First, let me say that Lisa was so lovely and gracious. We wandered the exhibit, chatting about Lilly. And that's when Lilly walked in.

I couldn't believe my eyes! She was looking absolutely adorable in an LP Eliot shirt, white linen pants, Bonannos and a flower in her hair. I reached out to shake her hand and she hugged me instead. She was SO sweet and exactly how I imagined her to be. She told us that she loved to hear stories, so my mother shared with her how she had become a Lilly fan - one of my parents' friends, Loretta, worked for the Key West Fabric Co. back in the day when they made all of Lilly's prints. Loretta made my mother maternity tops out of the fabric, which she wore while she was pregnant with me. She also made me a baby blanket out of all different Lilly prints. Lilly loved hearing this. I also told her how I worked at the Winter Park Lilly store during college and we chatted about how much she loves WP. She asked me where I live now and when I told her Palm Beach Gardens, she laughed and told me we were practically neighbors!

The exhibit brought tears to Lilly's eyes when she saw it. She made a few sassy, Lilly-fied comments "You think they could have done something about the brown lace on this dress," and she also shared stories on what went into creating the clothes and led us all on a hunt to find the "Lilly" written in each print!

I didn't want to take up too much of her time, so I said my goodbyes and Lilly once again hugged me and told me how great it was to meet me - and she remembered my name! Definitely the closest I've felt to being starstruck. On the way out, I also said goodbye to Lisa and chatted with her about another True Prep event I'm attending this week. She told me that she was also feeling starstruck, as today was her first time meeting Lilly! Lisa's note in my book definitely captured the overall feeling of the day.

I want it all!

Hanson Round #13

I'm sure y'all are sick and tired of my Hanson posts (see here, here, here and here), but I couldn't resist this time around ... they played my hometown for the first time ever! My BFF MTS came with me to the concert (she hasn't been to one of their shows since 8th grade). We had a grand time and danced the night away!

I was having lunch on Worth Avenue with a friend last week when I decided to pop into C. Orrico to see if they had any of the Lilly fall collection on sale. While I didn't pick up any Lilly, I stumbled across this $500 Jules Reid dress marked down to a mere $60! Definitely the bargain of the year and it fits like a dream!

I am not much of jewelry person. I wear the Tiffany ring my parents gave me in my high school (in lieu of a class ring), and usually pearl studs or my Tiffany heart earrings. Sometimes I'll throw on a statement necklace or some enamel bangles, but those days are few and far between.

These days, however, I've been looking to add a little oomph to my outfits and earrings seem to be the way to do it. My Daddy and I made our yearly pilgrimage to Tiffany last week to pick out an anniversary present for my Mama. After walking away with these sparklers, I was inspired to pick up some fun earrings for myself. Here's what I've picked up this week.

Kate Spade Jingle Bell StudsI really regretted not buying the KS holiday bow earrings last year, so I knew I had to have these. These are so whimsical and will look lovely with the finest of holiday frocks.

Kate Spade Mardi Gras Glass StudsI've been eyeing these for months, and finally bought them this weekend with the KS Friends & Family discount. The green is such a bold color, and it will of course look fabulous with all of my Lilly!

Florida Fall

While the arrival of fall brings pumpkin spice lattes and changing leaves in most of the country, in Florida it usually means temperatures in the 90s and heavy rains. As ready as I am to wear my coats, boots and tights, my wardrobe will be transitional until the end of December when the temperatures drop. But of course I can't resist wearing a few of my fall pieces now! Here's how I mix them to stay cool in this oppressive heat ...

Although my white and Lilly-printed shorts are stashed away for the season, I still like to wear navy or khaki shorts in early fall, as long as they are done with a fall-appropriate top and ballet flats instead of sandals.

Shirt dresses are an essential part of a Floridian's wardrobe. I can wear them solo now or pair them with tights and a jacket in a few months.

Layering is key. I can run around all day in a fall-appropriate button-down and khaki shorts, and throw a cardigan over it for work. Plus, once the temperature dips, I can change out my shorts for chinos!

Sneak Preview

Eric and I have finally moved into our new apartment, and I couldn't be more excited! Unfortunately, I won't be living here permanently for another few weeks, which means the apartment is a work in progress. Here's a little sneak preview!

My collection of Lilly prints

This was my childhood toy chest. It used to be white, but I painted it this color (Behr's "Mardi Gras") and added fun knobs from Anthropologie. The Staffordshire dogs are Carleton Varney for Home Shopping Network (I know, I know, but I loved them!) I'm hoping to add some glossy black candlesticks to the top ... plus the bottles of liquor!

This dresser is another piece from my childhood room. Eric and I chose a Tiffany blue for it (please disregard the shoddy paint job ... it got chipped during the move and needs to be touched up!) The pierced ginger jars are from Home Goods, the bronze steer figurine is a gift my parents brought back from Scotland, and the piano music box was my grandmother's.

We are currently looking for the perfect piece of art to hang above the couch (and a place for Eric's record player). I have ordered Ikat pillows for the couch and a Slim Aarons coffee table book, which should complete this corner of our (large) living room!

John Derian for Target

I've always loved John Derian's simple and chic designs, which is why I was thrilled to see he's doing another line for Target. I think his pieces would be fantastic for a country home, and although most of it is not the aesthetic I'm going for in my '60s Palm Beach-themed apartment, I was able to find a few pieces that will work.

These appetizer plates will look so chic with a little antipasto on it.

Love the print of this frame, and I think it will play nicely off our trellis-printed bedding.

I saw this jewelry box online, but unfortunately it was sold out at my local Target. I love the sweet little alphabet - so lovely!

Cincinnati: Part Two

I have been a Hanson fan since I was 10 years old. I first saw them in November 1997 when "MMMBop" was No. 1 on the charts, and subsequently have seen them 11 more times since then during the past 13 years.

My love for Hanson is not something that is easily explained to people. I'm in the rare position of having grown up with my favorite band, being around their ages (the youngest member, Zac, is a year old than me). I've found solace in their music for everything from the death of my grandmother to the first time I had my heart broken.

On Monday I had the pleasure of not only seeing Hanson in concert in Cincinnati, but I also got to meet the band for the fifth time. As always, the boys were extremely gracious and genuinely interested in what their fans had to say. I asked them to sign the picture frame that contains a photo of the four of us when I met them at UCF my freshman year. Taylor remembered that day and remarked that it felt like a lifetime ago. I told him I agreed - after all, it was a month into my first semester of college. Many things have changed since then, but the bond I have with this band and their music has remained a constant in my life.

So thank you, Hanson, for the music and the memories. Here's to 13 more years!

So, even after successfully resuscitating my laptop a few months back, I think it has stopped working for good this time. I figured it's about time I bite the bullet and get a Macbook (all of my friends, my boyfriend and my brother have been tempting me with theirs). I will be taking a few days off from blogging until I make it to the Apple store Tuesday! Hope everyone has a lovely Labor Day weekend!

P.S. I really want to get a nice case embossed with my initials for my Macbook. Does anyone know any where I can get one (preferably for less than $100)?

Cincinnati: Part One

I had the most fantastic time in Cincinnati! I love the gritty, urban feel of cities like Cincinnati (and Pittsburgh, which I visited for the first time two months ago). It is such a departure from South Florida's shiny, polished exterior.

We had dinner the first night at Terry's Turf Club, which was featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.

I can't say enough how great it was to see C. She and I lived together for three years of college, and I miss doing silly things with her like going to breakfast in our pajamas. C moved to Cincinnati to pursue her doctorate in psychology, and I couldn't be more proud of her. She's definitely the sister I never had. She was the best hostess, for showing me around the city AND for coming to see Hanson with me (which deserves its own post).

One for One

I'm headed to Cincinnati this weekend to visit my best friend, as well as see Hanson in concert. I've been looking for an excuse to buy another pair of TOMS shoes, since I lovelovelove my blue linen pair. I figured the Hanson concert was a perfect excuse, because the band teamed up with TOMS to raise awareness on poverty and what it's like to not have a pair of shoes. I decided the gold glitter pair would be fun, festive, and look great with the Lilly dress I plan on wearing to the concert.

For each pair of shoes sold, TOMS donates a pair to a child in need. For the past couple of years, Hanson has been sponsoring one-mile walks before each of their concerts. They encourage participants to walk barefoot to see what it's like not to have shoes. (And as someone who has participated in three walks - one around the UCF campus at that - it is no easy feat, pun intended.) Hanson is also giving $1 of their own money for each person who walks to help fight poverty and AIDS in Africa.

BAH Learns Self-Control (And some love for M.C.)

If there's one thing to be said about my wardrobe, it's that I own a lot of Lilly. In fact, when Eric and I move into our new apartment next month (just signed for it yesterday, yay!), the closet in the guest bedroom is being used to house my Lilly collection exclusively. Needless to say, the last thing I need is more Lilly.

And then a blurb about the Lilly online sale popped up on my Facebook news feed, and of course it caught my attention. I woke up just in time to hop on Eric's laptop and peruse the offerings. Immediately I added the Stuffed Shells Loose Lilly bag and the Creme Fraiche Callahan shorts to my shopping tote. As I headed for checkout, I stopped myself. First of all, I already own the Roslyn skirt in the Stuffed Shells print, and I have about a dozen other Lilly totes. As far as the Callahan shorts go, I have countless other pairs of Lilly shorts, including the pink-and-green seersucker from this summer's collection, which look nearly identical. Fighting the urge, I deleted the items from my shopping cart.

And then I noticed a link to "Men's" in the left hand column. And there they were: the Fresh Catch Toile Capri Trunks I had wanted to buy Eric, but had been sold out at my Lilly shop. Now, Fresh Catch might be one of my top five favorite prints of all time. I own both the Delphina dress and the Callahan shorts in it. And Eric could always use a new bathing suit, especially one that costs a mere $29. And so I went for it.

The moral of the story? It is always better to give than to receive. Especially when it involves your boyfriend looking adorable in Lilly pants.

In other news, Eric and I went to see Scott Pilgrim vs. the World last night and it was AWESOME! Unlike any movie I've seen - kind of like being in a cross between a comic book and a video game. But I must confess something - I L-O-V-E Michael Cera. He stole my heart as Paulie Bleeker in Juno, and I've had a nerdtastic crush on him ever since!
